Cutting Edge Technologies 2015

In the name of the organizing team, we would like to thank all the speakers, participants and our helping hands for making this event such a big success!

The graduate programs of the Life Science Campus Großhadern/Martinsried jointly hosted an event on cutting-edge technologies in life science.

New techniques develop quickly and can revolutionize the scientific landscape. Key examples are PCR, molecular sequencing and cloning, all developed around the mid-20th century, that have transformed the pace and progress in science and have become standard tools in education, research and industry today.

But how is such a technological/methodological breakthrough accomplished? What are the pitfalls during development? What are the challenges and succeses of their application?

We invited keynote speakers who have developed groundbreaking methods (CrisprCas and Optogenetics) and have visionary ideas for the future (Connectomics). Break-out sessions were conducted by local pioneers reflecting the wealth of cutting-edge techniques right here on the Campus Großhadern/Martinsried.

  • Keynote Lectures by
    • Professor Dr. Emmanuelle Charpentier, Helmholtz Center for Infection Research, Braunschweig
    • Professor Dr. Ernst Bamberg, Max Planck Institute of Biophysics, Frankfurt am Main
    • Professor Dr. Moritz Helmstädter, Max Planck Institute for Brain Research, Frankfurt am Main
  • Breakout Sessions
Genome Engineering, Stem Cells, Genomics, Proteomics, Live-Imaging, Super-Resolution Microscopy, Photopharmacology, Nanospectroscopy, Next Generation Sequencing, Optogenetics
  • Networking
During the coffee breaks thematic Hotspots will provide the opportunity to connect people with common interests, for further discussions and networking.

The program continued informally over a barbecue dinner on the terrace.

The event was fully booked.
